Insurance companies enter into agreements with the people they insure that define what costs and benefits will be based on those agreements. As the government requires more things to be covered, cost to the insurance company goes up resulting in higher premiums. They do what they do for a majority of U.S. citizens at a profit of about 4 cents on the dollar. As one person figured out recently, the insurance company made about $88.00 per year for each from each of it's clients. Not a bad deal for all paperwork and other bull the insurer has to deal with.

So, why all the hate directed at the health insurers? Hospital holding companies, pharmacutical companies and others in the health care industry make much higher profits.

(By the way, if it becomes illegal to exclude pre-existing conditions, I'll drop all health insurance immediately and then resume it as soon as I need it. See how long it takes for all the insurance companies to go out of business when we all do that! If they come up with something like that for my car, I'll also drop my auto insurance untill I have an accident, then I'll throw a months premium toward full coverage on the car so I can get a new one.)

I intend to go use the current policies for my car and home when getting insurance quotes. Some people say if you do it on your own online, you can make mistakes and make wrong coverage or higher premiums, but that happens even if you go through a broker or those Customer Service Reps at a insurance company.

What exactly are the differences in getting quotes online versus getting one from a human broker? I expect biased answers, but if you try to be fair that would be helpful in helping people saving money in these hard times. Thanks!

I had a break in at my home the other night, and the thieves stole a set of my car keys. They broke in, and were disturbed by my dad. They actually attempted to steal the car, but crashed it into a tree in my driveway, and abandoned it. The police have the car to look for fingerprints etc, and we think we know who did it as the idiot dropped his phone nearby. However, I don't know if they will have enough evidence to charge him.

Anyhow, I should probably have it back in a few days, and I have searched everywhere nearby for the keys they took, in case they had thrown them away, but can't see them anywhere, which leads to my concern that they may return at a later date to finish the job. I have a spare set, but don't know what to do in terms of protecting it. If the damage is minimal I would prefer not to involve my insurance company as I am trying to build up my no claims bonus and reduce my premiums.

So yesterday A car hit mine, passenger side at the front, ive been told it was my fault because I pulled out with plenty of time but the other car didnt see me and carried on speeding.
anyway she rang me today and asked if i wanted to go through insurance to repair her car, her car , has suffered a few scratches about 10cm in length and white in colour so obviously werent hairline, theyre not major but noticeable if you look for them, shes also claiming she has a small dent above her wheel arch, even though my car has come out spotless :S
How much does it usually cost to fix small dents and minor scratches?
also, is it better for me to do it off my own back rather than my insurance?
as i only passed my test last week and have only been insured for 3 days!!!
insurance already costs me 2324.00 a year because my car is a punto sport 16v and im a young inexperienced driver, will my premiums go up loads if i claim off my insurance?
also what proof of charges should i get off this girl if i do go off my own back?
i said to her id rather not go through insurance and she said shes going to get some quotes on monday,
ive asked her to get written proof of the quotes on company headed paper or stamped/signed by the mechanic.
also to provide a contact number.
help pls?
