Miley Cyrus’s boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, opened the door to the pop singer’s heart – literally.

When the couple, who have been dating about 10 months, first met on the Tybee Island, Georgia, set of The Last Song, “he opened the door for me,” Cyrus tells Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show set to air March 31. “I was like, I have been in L.A. for three years and I don’t think any guy has actually opened the door for me.”

That polite gesture made quite the impression on the 17-year-old: “I was like, wow, that is super impressive. I actually turned to the director and said, ‘He’s got the job.’ He’s hot and he opened the door. Excellent.”

There were some early stumbling blocks, admitted Cyrus, who said she was taking a hiatus from dating when she met the Australian actor, 20.

“We started filming and at one point the chemistry was kind of awkward,” she said. “We were both like, I liked him a little bit, he liked me a little bit but it was awkward.”

But Cyrus finally informed Hemsworth: “Okay, you’re going to be my boyfriend,” and it’s been a smooth ride ever since – so much so that DeGeneres presented the happy couple with a set of bikes.

As news broke of Kate Winslet and SamMendes’s amicable split Monday, the couple was thousands of miles apart.

Now the British papers are abuzz that it was during the filming of Revolutionary Road that strains in their marriage began. The film happens to be about a couple in a disintegrating marriage.

Perhaps Mendes unwittingly gave a clue to the downside of living and working together when that same January, he told The Daily Telegraph it was “exhilarating” working with his wife, but, “I tend to cut off at the end of the day and watch a baseball game or something. I don’t like to bring work home.

“Kate is the opposite,” he added. “So I just had to change my ways because it’s what she needed and my goal was to get the best performance I possibly could out of her and if she needed to talk about it, then that was my job, too.”

We all have our defining moments, but few of us can say they happened when we sang on national television in a bikini. American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is one of those few.

DioGuardi, 38, tells Women’s Health that her stunt on last season’s finale, when she stripped down to a two-piece bathing suit to belt out a duet with a contestant dubbed “Bikini Girl,” was a pivotal point in her career. “It probably saved my job,” she says. “It was a defining moment. Like, ‘She’s serious and industry, but also as kooky as everyone else on this panel.’ “

It wasn’t easy to get DioGuardi to do her little swimsuit act in the first place.

“I kept saying no,” she says in the magazine’s April issue. “I mean, what crazy nut is gonna go out there in a bikini at almost 40 years of age against a girl who is 20 and probably cosmetically enhanced? I looked a little pasty. But hey, at least I didn’t wet myself!”

Speaking of moments, DioGuardi hopes she’ll be there for the important ones in her future children’s lives, though she’s guarded on the subject of having kids with her husband Mike. “It’ll be a lot of pressure being in charge of a little soul who will someday judge me if I’m not there for the school play,” she says.
