We know she can stand up to Simon Cowell, but how is Kara DioGuardi at kissing babies?

The American Idol judge – and professional songwriter – may soon be a senator’s daughter. Her father, Joseph DioGuardi, is running for the office of U.S. Senator from New York, challenging Hillary Clinton’s replacement, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Clinton left her position to become the Secretary of State under President Barack Obama.

Mr. DioGuardi was a two-term congressman from the suburbs north of New York City in the ’80s, and the Idol judge recently spoke with PEOPLE about growing up with a dad in Congress, what she inherited from him and what kind of advice she can offer him on the campaign trail.

“I’m just happy to see him follow his dreams,” a proud Kara said of her father’s bid. “I love him, he’s my dad and I wish him well.”

And her dad has a new reason to be proud as well. Kara will make her concert debut at the Borgota Spa and Resort in Atlantic City on April 9 and 10.

“I will be performing many of the hit songs I have written and telling the audience the story behind them and the personal stories that created them,” she said in a statement.

DioGuardi’s songwriting credits include Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man,” Pink’s “Sober” and Kelly Clarkson’s “Walk Away.”

It appears that Beyoncé Knowles has a new half-brother.

A paternity test has confirmed that Mathew Knowles, 58, is the father of Alexsandra Wright’s new baby boy, Nixon TMZ reports. The baby’s half-sisters Beyoncé and Solange are 29 and 24, respectively.

The news comes after the elder Knowles initially had no comment about claims that he fathered a child with Wright, an actress, who said they had an 18-month affair with Knowles and filed a paternity suit last October.

Knowles was the manager of daughter Beyoncé, who first rose to stardom with Destiny’s Child under his leadership. He split with former wife Tina after nearly 30 years of marriage when rumors of his affair with Wright surfaced.

A rep for Matthew Knowles had no comment.

Peter Facinelli

Forget Edward or Jacob, Peter Facinelli has a fan club all his own: Team Carlisle.

But, Facinelli, 36, who plays the dashing Carlisle Cullen in the Twilight series, is concerned about his professional duty ruining the personal enjoyment of the vampire flick for his daughters.

“I hope it doesn’t take them out of the movie that their dad is in it. I wouldn’t want to ruin it every time I pop on the screen, like, ‘There’s dad!’ ” Facinelli said of his and wife Jennie Garth’s three children: Luca, 12, Lola, 7, and Fiona, 3, who have watched Twilight more times than he can count.

“The DVD’s got burn marks on it!” Facinelli told PEOPLE on Friday at the New Moon home-video release party in Manhattan, also noting that a replacement is in order. “I’m happy to bring New Moon home to them tonight.”

The biggest “Twi-hard” in the family? Lola. “My 7-year-old would go to school with a Carlisle T-shirt,” said Facinelli. “The 12-year-old underplays it a lot. But if the 7-year-old had a Carlisle lunchbox, she’d take it to school.”

Jennifer Aniston has decided to start a family of her own – on film. In The Switch she plays a 40-year-old single woman named Kassie who decides it’s time to get pregnant and finds a sperm donor (Patrick Wilson) to make it happen.

Jason Bateman costars as Aniston’s neurotic, hypochondriac best friend who secretly has feelings for her and tries to talk her out of having a baby with a stranger. Kassie’s plan goes wrong when Bateman’s character, Wally, drunkenly switches the donor Roland’s sample with his own.

He and Kassie lose touch, only to reconnect seven years later when he gets to know her – their – son. Not surprisingly, the little boy is a lot like his dad. Things are further complicated by the sperm donor, who is not only still in the picture but has managed to fall in love with Kassie, too.

The Miramax movie, due out in August, also stars Jeff Goldblum and Juliette Lewis.

So is the former Dancing with the Stars competitor – and longtime playboy – ready for diaper duty?

“Of course,” Lopez says. “I grew up in a large family. I’m fired up! I don’t know what we’re having. I’m going to wait to see [the baby’s gender] so it will be a surprise.”
