I purchased a new car in 2009. It got totaled and I was paid for the price of the car by the insurance company. Insurance company also returned me the sales tax amount as per the valuation of the car. So now will I be able to claim tax rebate for the car as per http://www.irs.gov/irs/article/0,,id=214016,00.html ?

I lost one of my jobs in October and haven't been able to pay for my auto insurance (amoung other things). I got a letter from Americredit saying they know it's lapsed and I'm required to have insurance. I'm working on getting a second job or more hours on my first, but I'm just wondering what they can do until then. Can/will they come and tow my car away from my apartment?

I need a little advice. I was side swiped by a teen driver. The family would like to take care of the damages without going through their insurance.

I filed a police report of the incident
I gave them an estimate which includes:
- an estimate to repair the damages from an auto body shop
which was estimated at approx $2600.00
- $200 for my time and expenses lost gathering estimates
- 5 to 7 days of pick up truck or suv rental approx $700.00 this will replace my vehicle while its in the shop. I use my truck for deliveries and cannot be without a vehicle of the same cargo space.

-Not sure if I need the dealership to inspect my vehicle further before the auto body shop gets it. In case their is unforeseen damage.

Im asking for the money up front and since the estimates were high to account for variable change. If the final cost is less I will return the remainder of the money along with the receipts of the work provided.

Is their anything else I should or shouldn't do when negotiating a claim not going through insurance?

for instance, a red car will typically be more expensive than, say, a tan car. my girlfriend says 2-door cars also raise the price cuz then they're automatically considered a sports car, but i doubt that… though theres gotta be some truth to the 2door being more expensive, but only on certain makes, so you shouldn't use it as a general rule of thumb, right?

Well im trying to get a car right now about 15-20k

im approved for a loan at capital one for 18k

now my problem is that if i get the car under my name, insurance is going to go up high.

if i get the under my parents name, insurance is going to be cheap.

am i able to go to still use the loan but put it under my parents name with the bank and still have me paying for it?

btw my parents do not want to sign their own loan.. they can have the name under them but not the loan

Ok so I'm thinking about gettina an auto loan for my car which is completely paid off…my question is that I know the title would become the bank's but i dont understand what exactly a loss payee is…does the bank recieve monthly insurance statements and updates of insurance changes etc….or are they only contacted in case of an accident to the vehicle

Looking to buy a used 2009 vehicle right now with 9,000 miles. Seller states it was purchased at an insurance auction with a clear title. Autocheck confirms this info – single owner, no accidents, no thefts, no repossessions, clear title, etc. What might be the reason this car was at the auction in the first place?

Should I be able to walk into an auto insurance company and demand they sell me a policy and cover the damage?

I was recently in a car accident , which was not my fault…(driver ran me off the road and caused me to hit a parked car).. I didnt have auto insurance at the time, my fault, yes I know…there were only damages to the left front fender and driver side door. The car owners insurance company is asking for $2022.00…. Now, I know it doesnt cost that much to replace those parts, my dad is a auto body manager at Earl Sheib and he knows by experience since hes been doing that his whole life. I got estimates from auto body shops that add up to an average of $760.00… if I offer that to the insurance company, what are the chances that they will accept that amout and not take me to court? Forgot to mention it's a 2001 toyota camry…. there were repairs on the final invoice that had items replaced and repaired that I didnt damage… windshield… bumper… etc.
