Republicans are arguing this is unconstitutional. wouldn't states requiring you to have auto insurance, undre penalty of prison, also be unconstitutional?

If you don'y buy insurance, and you don't qualify for a subsidized plan, and if you aren't poor, you face a tax penalty of $750.

However, if you buy a house, your taxes can go down by way more than $750. In a way, anyone who deosn't own a house is paying a tax penalty right now. Does this mean that the government currently forces us to buy houses?

I'm glad it's losing support and I hope it fails…………….

but I just feel they went way out of line trying to FINE and IMPRISON people for refusing to buy health insurance.

I understand the argument, "If everyone has insurance, it will save money in the long run."
But that still doesn't change the principle; It should be a consumer's right to choose.
People shouldn't be forced against their will to purchase things.

If you compare this to auto-insurance……….
there's a difference:
1. You only have to buy it if you DRIVE. Don't like it? Then don't drive.
2. You are only required to cover the car you hit, not your own car.

This would be the first government required purchase I Know of. Auto insurance is not required unless you own a vehicle. You are not required to buy food, clothing or shelter. All of which are more basic requirements. Plus, what prison and for how long would they send offenders who did not buy insurance, or pay the fine. Seems unenforceable to me.

Mandatory health insurance.

This bill is based on the same principle as "no-fault" auto insurance. it was supposed to bring premiums down, when instead they skyrocketed because the insurance providers held people hostage because insurance was now mandatory. No insurance, no registration.

The Democrats propose to REQUIRE everyone to buy heath insurance, either from a private company or from the government. How many people who cannot afford health insurance now, and earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, will be fined for not being able to pay for health insurance under the new plan? If you cannot afford health insurance, how can you afford to pay a fine? Does being fined help your financial situation?
The analogy of auto insurance being required fails because if you do not buy auto insurance, the state can take away your driver's license. If you can't afford health insurance, and you can't afford the fine, what will the government take away from you? Your life?

Why all the uproar about being forced to buy health insurance? I don't get it. I am forced to buy auto insurance by the government. Why is there not the same disdain towards that? I would bet that 99% of the people who "choose" to not be insured couldn't afford their medical bills if they were to have a heart attack or be diagnosed with cancer. I would like to know how those people feel they should be treated. Who should pick up your bill? According to them, it shouldn't be the government because the government has no business in your healthcare. So, who should foot the bill when you are uninsured and need medical help?

I live in seattle and was visiting for the first time in OR. I was driving a friends car (Who didnt have insurance) and was hit by another car… OR has suspended my license and wants to make me get SR22 insurance. Can they do this?

This is my first car and it is a 2001 Dodge stratus sliver. The car has 115xxx miles on it and the guy is selling it for 2300. Do you think this is a good deal how many miles can a car like this handle. Also are parts for this type of car expensive. The car was in an accident the person before the guy selling the car hit someone from behind, now the car has a black bumper on it that don't look that bad. Will my insurance be higher for a car that was in accident???
