I hit a car and left a note?

I drive a stick shift car and after turning on my engine, I put it in neutral and pulled the safety brakes. I was fidgeting with my backpack and I let the car slide and hit the front of the other car in the parking lot. There were only some scratches, a very small dent, and that is it.
I know that it is hard to estimate, but would this be approximately under $500? (I have never been in a car accident so I am not familiar)
How can I ask the other driver if I can pay under the table? I am still waiting for his call, and I do not want my insurance rates going up!

Thank you

Your going to have to wait for the phone call either from the owner or their insurance company. There is nothing you can do until you get that call. You did the honest thing by leaving a note.
