Kate Gosselin Shoots Back, Says She Will Provide for Kids

“I am not willing to comment in public on the custody discussions regarding my children,” Gosselin says in a new statement. “What I will say is this: I am and always will be a mother first, but as a single working mom, I will do everything necessary to provide for my kids despite the opinions of others.”

Jon’s laywer tells PEOPLE that Kate is an “absentee parent,” citing her current stint on Dancing with the Stars which shoots in Los Angeles. “He wants equal say with custody, equal time, but if the circumstances remain as they are, with Kate being rarely home, Jon wants primary custody of the children,” says Anthony List Sr.

Meanwhile, Kate’s lawyer Mark Momjian tells PEOPLE he has not received a formal filing yet but that “our client is a devoted mother who loves her children very much.”

“We’re grateful for the prayers of thousands,” Jim Bob Duggar tells PEOPLE as he and wife Michelle left Arkansas Children’s Hospital on Tuesday with Josie. “We are so happy,” adds Michelle. “We are so excited, we are running on adrenaline. I have been getting into the routine of every three hours feeding, diapering and taking her temperature. We are so encouraged that she is doing so well.”

As they drove away from the hospital, her physician, Dr. Robert Arrington said, “This is the first time Josie has seen sunlight.” She was born on Dec. 10 via emergency C-section at just 25 weeks’ gestation. Weighing just 1 lb. 6 oz., the micropremie fought for her life, surviving a bowel perforation at only 8 days old.

Today, Josie weighs 4 lbs. 9 oz., is breathing without oxygen, eating every three hours and stable enough to go home, says Arrington. It’s a bittersweet day for the staff. “I will miss being around the baby and the family,” Arrington says. “They are very nice people. But they’ve told me they will stay in touch and come by the nursery to let us see her.”

Michelle says the family’s emotional roller-coaster ride has “leveled out,” and that Josie’s disposition has been a joy in hard times. “She has a strong personality,” Michelle says. “She is a spunky little thing and will keep us all going.”

The littlest Duggars at home – Jackson, 5, Johanna, 4, Jennifer, 2, and Jordyn, 15 months – have never seen Josie in person and “are jumping up and down that they will finally get to meet their baby sister,” says Michelle. Of course, given Josie’s still-delicate state, “the little ones will have to be careful with slobbery kisses to prevent any colds and sniffles,” Michelle adds.

The family will remain in a rental home nearby in Little Rock indefinitely until they are ready to take Josie home to Tontitown, Ark. “I will be her main caregiver,” Michelle says, “and we’ll have a lot of helpers around to take turns feeding her and getting her to sleep.”

Jon Gosselin Plans to Sue ‘Absentee Parent’ Kate for Custody

Brian Prahl/Splash News> Claiming she doesn’t spent enough quality time with their eight children, Jon Gosselin is planning to sue ex-wife Kate Gosselin for primary physical custody.

Pointing to her current stint on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, Jon’s lawyer tells PEOPLE that Kate is “an absentee parent,” that Jon may seek primary custody, and that he might also seek to reverse the child-support arrangement, under which Jon now pays Kate some $21,000 a month.

“He wants equal say with custody, equal time, but if the circumstances remain as they are, with Kate being rarely home, Jon wants primary custody of the children,” says lawyer Anthony List Sr., a former assistant U.S. attorney. “He is much better able to spend time with the children.”

List plans to file three separation actions in the next day or two.

“Kate Gosselin can’t have it both ways unless there is some balance, unless there are some opportunities for these eight children to be in her physical presence,” adds List. “Jon wants to spend time with these kids, and she is throwing up road blocks. And the eight children are the innocent victims. This tears Jon up.”

Kate’s Response

In turn, Kate’s lawyer Mark Momjian tells PEOPLE he has not received a formal filing yet but that “our client is a devoted mother who loves her children very much.”

The latest legal wrangling from Jon, 33, comes as Kate, 35, is about to start a publicity campaign for her new book, I Just Want You To Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith and Family, which is set to be released on April 13.

“It’s almost as if he deliberately timed this to sabotage her efforts to promote the book,” says one source close to the book’s publisher. “Now she’s once again going to defend herself as a mom when she should be able to just talk about this project that she worked so hard on.”

Corey Haim Obtained 553 Pills in Weeks Before He Died

In a 32-day period ending just five days before he collapsed in his mother’s L.A. apartment, Haim possessed at least 149 tablets of Vicodin, 195 tablets of Valium, 15 tablets of Xanax and 194 tablets of Soma, according to Attorney General Edmund G. Brown, Jr., who called Haim the poster child of prescription drug abuse.

Haim, 38, went to seven different doctors and seven different pharmacies to obtain the doses, Brown said. The actor also collected the drugs from emergency rooms and urgent care facilities.

The top state prosecutor’s office had been investigating a prescription drug crime ring for the past nine months when a fraudulent prescription for OxyContin – that originated from a stolen doctor’s pad – turned up in Haim’s name.

Witnesses told investigators that Haim, who had multiple stints in rehab, had abused drugs since he was 15. In the months before he died, Haim “was preparing to do a media special on how easy it was for him to obtain pain medications,” according to the attorney general’s statement.

Haim Was "Very Convincing"

Haim’s doctors told drug enforcement agents that the child actor was “very convincing” in his request for prescription meds. Although Haim’s primary care physician confirmed to investigators that the actor was addicted to prescription meds, he also sought drugs from other doctors, telling them he suffered shoulder pain that occurred while filming a movie in Canada.

According to the attorney general’s statement, Haim told doctors that he wasn’t seeing any other physicians and stated he planned to have surgery. He also told certain doctors he had “depression issues.”

On March 17, an arrest was made of a suspect tied to the drug ring, and Brown said Tuesday that more arrests were expected. No other celebrity names have turned up in the investigation thus far.

Although police mentioned an overdose as a possible cause of Haim’s death, the official determination is pending toxicology results.

Haim was laid to rest in his hometown of Toronto on March 16.

After filing a lawsuit Monday alleging she was assaulted and then was wrongly fired from ABC’s Desperate Housewives, her lawyer alleges show creator Marc Cherry was abusive on the set – and the attorney anticipates more of the same now.

“We expect the case to be hard fought, and it will not be a surprise if ABC and Mr. Cherry try to depict Nicollette to be something other than a team player and long-standing industry professional,” says attorney Mark Baute.

Sheridan, 46, is suing for $20 million, alleging assault and battery, gender violence and wrongful termination. She says that Cherry hit her in the face when she questioned a script and that she was then killed off the show last year when she complained.

“Nicollette worked very hard on the show and was a model employee,” Baute says. “Mr. Cherry’s behavior towards Nicollette was and is nothing short of abusive and appalling. The lawsuit is not something Nicollette wanted to do, it’s something she felt compelled to do.”

Saying that Sheridan “put her heart and soul” into the role of sexy Realtor Edie Britt, Baute claims the actress went to court only because ABC rebuffed her requests for protection.

“Sometimes the only way that a safe and normal work environment can be created is when a hard-working person like Nicollette stands up for herself and her rights,” he says, “and in doing so help protect others who have had to work in a hostile environment.”

ABC Studios said in a statement Monday: “While we have yet to see the actual complaint, we investigated similar claims made by Ms. Sheridan last year and found them to be without merit.”

Until now, Bullock, 45, had not commented, remaining in seclusion since reports surfaced that James, 40, allegedly had cheated on her with at least four other women.

Mark McGrath Is Engaged and Expecting – Twins!

The rocker and his longtime love, Carin Kingsland, are expecting twins – a boy and a girl – in May, they tell PEOPLE exclusively.

“I’m so excited,” says McGrath. “My DNA paranoia is kicking in: I’ve got to feed these children. We’ve got to get the nursery together. And what do you do when you bring the kids home?”

“Most parents are like, ‘Oh, the wonders of child rearing,’” he says with an exaggerated sigh. “But we’re freaking out! The first year is going to be gnarly.”

All joking aside, McGrath says it felt “surreal” when Kingsland’s doctor confirmed that not only that she was pregnant via IVF, but that she was carrying two babies.

“I love them already, but I need them to come out so I can really shower them with love,” says the singer, who will host Fox’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics! next fall (auditions start this month) and perform with Sugar Ray this summer. “I can’t wait to meet them.”

New Year’s Engagement

The birth isn’t the only event McGrath, 42, and Kingsland, 37, an aesthetician, are looking forward to: They’re also engaged after 16 years of on-and-off dating.

McGrath tells PEOPLE that he proposed this past New Year’s Eve at the Viper Room nightclub on L.A.’s Sunset Strip, the same spot where he and Kingsland met in 1994.

“The first thing I said to her when I met her was, ‘I think I love you,’ ” he says. After taking her back to the venue three months ago, he told her, ” ‘Well after 16 years, I know I love you. Will you marry me?’ ”

The wedding planning might have to wait as they get settled into family life, however. “We love the idea of getting married on 10/10/10,” says McGrath, “but the twins might have another idea.”

Rachel Maddow and Her Girlfriend Give Up TV on Weekends

The MSNBC host, 37, and her artist girlfriend Susan Mikula spend each weekend at their quaint home three hours north of New York in Western Massachusetts, and it doesn’t have cable – or even a television.

“We realized that the two of us have the TV Disease,” explains Mikula, 52. “Rachel can’t have one because she’d watch it all the time!” Instead, they enjoy the solitude and home-cooked meals Mikula prepares.

Maddow does have a small TV in their tiny New York City apartment, but Mikula only uses it “so that I can watch her on Friday nights before I come pick her up.”

The couple met in 1999, when Maddow, who then worked odd jobs, was hired to do yard work on Mikula’s property in the Berkshires.

“It was very Desperate Housewives,” jokes Maddow of how their relationship began.

George Lopez paid a second visit to Sandra Bullock’s Los Angeles home Monday – and the talk-show host was mobbed by photographers who were camped outside. Nevertheless, Lopez had positive things to report about his friend’s state of mind.

“She’s all right,” he told the assembled paparazzi.

Bullock has been a longtime Lopez supporter, and she produced his sitcom, The George Lopez Show. Monday’s visit is the second reported stop Lopez has made by Bullock’s home.

The menu, however, was a bit more traditional. “Chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, bread and salad – good-old southern country food!” according to the bride.

But don’t forget the most important detail: the drink of the day. “I only drink Miller Lite, so that was pretty much my only stipulation – that and a really good band,” says Gunderson of letting his bride handle most of the wedding planning details.

The couple, who shared their first dance to Michael Buble’s “Crazy Love,” is honeymooning in the Dominican Republic and, according to Gunderson, marriage suits him already. “I’m actually pretty excited about my wedding band, it’s my grandfather’s, who was a big part of my life growing up. He died about ten years ago and now I’m going to be wearing his wedding ring.”
