Why do people adopt political views based on wishful thinking rather than logic?

Why do people adopt political views based on wishful thinking rather than logic?
A classic example of a policy based upon wishful thinking is the minimum wage. The minimum wage is a law which outlaws all jobs that pay between 1 cent and the minimum wage (jobs that pay $0.00 are called "volunteering" and are usually glorified by the same politicians who support minimum wage laws). The result of a minimum wage law is unemployment among low-skilled workers (who are usually young). One major reason why the unemployment rate among the young is so high today is because the Democratic Party raised the minimum wage back in 2007 (although, of course, the Depression is partly responsible for the rise in unemployment). The minimum wage harms the people it is claimed to help. Who benefits from the minimum wage? Labor unions, as employers choose to hire union labor rather than unskilled labor due to the high minimum wage (the labor union bosses know exactly what they are doing when they call for higher minimum wages). When the minimum wage is increased, unemployment among the young and the unskilled is higher than it would have otherwise been (if other factors change, unemployment may decrease or stay the same, but it would have been lower if the minimum wage had stayed the same or decreased).
Another example of a delusional economic view is the idea that expanding the amount of money in existence is good for the economy. Due to the law of supply and demand, when the amount of money is expanded, prices are higher than they would have otherwise been. Furthermore, this is not neutral to the market, as the people who get the money first will get it before it loses its purchasing power. As a result, when the Fed runs the printing press, it is taxing the American people by stealth and enriching those who are connected to the government (big banks, defense contractors, politicians etc.) at the expense of the people as a whole. When the new money finds its way to the banks, the banks will give out more loans (which means that they will loan to people who would not have otherwise gotten a loan). The people who take out these loans will invest the money, creating a bubble. The bubble will eventually burst, once the market recognizes that the investments are bad investments and the economy will go into a recession. If politicians let it run its course, the recession will be over in about a year. If not, it lingers, becoming a depression, while the government runs up massive amounts of debt further sabotaging the economy (eventually, the government must either stop or it will bring about a debt crisis, if it inflates out of the debt crisis, it will bring about a currency crisis).
Another example of wishful thinking is with the Democratic Party's "reform" of health insurance. They start by banning "discrimination" based on pre-existing conditions, which forces people who don't have a pre-existing condition to subsidize health insurance for those who do. Then, the Democratic Party proposes to force everybody to purchase health insurance. This will force the young (who don't have much money to begin with) to subsidize health care for their spendthrift Baby Boomer parents (as if the Baby Boomer generation hasn't voted themselves enough welfare benefits at the expense of their children yet). ObamaCare is basically a massive scheme to steal from the young and the healthy to subsidize the middle-aged and the unhealthy (not to mention a bunch of hypochondriacs). The Democrats are actually trying to sell this as a way to reduce health care costs when anybody who understands basic economics would recognize that it will drastically increase health care costs as a whole.
What will it take for people to learn that they cannot get something for nothing? What will it take for them to learn that their "need," no matter how great, does not entitle them to the property of other people?

My daughters???????????????//?
I just turned 18 yesterday and tomorrow I am get custody of my 3 nieces. The oldest one is 6, then 4.5 years old. The other one is just a few months old. She was born on Christmas.
Their father died in November and their mother who is my sister died while giving birth on Christmas. Back 2 years ago. My sister asked me if anything happens if I would become the dad (parent) of their kids. I said yes.
My mom and dad are pastors of their church. I have 9 younger siblings. Actually this is my adopted family. They adopted me and my sister when we were little. I have a good job and I am graduating with highest honors from high school. I am getting married. I was only adopted my two youngest nieces. But 5 social works, 3 doctors, my parents believe all 3 should stay with me. I said yes.
These 3 girls are all I have left of my natural family. I love so much. They love calling me dad.
I can't wait until they are my daughters.
I did say the other day that i had 2 nieces. But there is a reason i said two.
My question is where the place to buy GOODNIGHT underpants is or pampers underpants?

What do I do about my boyfriend!?

Undecided Question
What do I do about my boyfriend!?
Anyway the problem here is he comes up to visit maybe once every 1 – 2 months..which it fine I guess..we are both very busy with school. But he is up here now staying at his parents house (which he doesn't really care for, but he can't stay at my house) =/ His mom is one of those who wants him all to herself cause she never gets to see him. (he's an only child. & so am I) I don't mind sharing him but today was my only full day off the whole time he is here and once again his mom wants to take him away from me, I mean he invited me to hang out w/ them but I don't know I figured I should just let his mom have him. =( Also we never really go to my parents house because its boringgg so we are always spending time at his house w/ his parents and never seem to have alone time. His mother is always in the living room with us…Dang I'm just so fed up w/ always being stuck w/ him & his PARENTS. But I don't really know how to tell him that in a nice way were he will not get mad. I guess you can say I'm selfish because I want my boyfriend to my self because I don't get to see him very much! I mean really is that to much to ask for!? Especially on my only day off!! So dang annoyed right now…I could probably go on and on…Please help me! And no stupid mean answers. =)
Thanks in advance!!
What are my chances of Getting into BYU-Provo?

What are my chances of Getting into BYU-Provo?
-Strong recommends
-I'm a recent convert to the church
-H.S. Gpa of 3.63 unweighted. -3 AP classes (about 17 honors classes in my high school career)
-Unique extra currics, spent time aside to teach kids how to swim on saturday mornings. I emphasized service as a part of me because well…that's just who I am and week without service usually leaves an empty hole in me
-I only attended one semester at the University level so nothing from college is going to be considered as far as gpa or classes go.
-I speak Spanish , Portuguese, and English.
- 1090 SAT score (24 ACT)
I guess I'm looking for comfort here, but the truth is always better.
